silverorange has an on-going relationship with Veterans
Affairs Canada. A redesign of the VAC Intranet is one of the
projects we’ve completed recently.
Veterans Affairs Canada Intranet
With over 3,000 employees working in offices located in
several provinces, keeping everyone informed is of key
importance for the Department. silverorange is currently
working with the VAC to remodel their current intranet site
graphically and in terms of usability.
By 2002, it will be mandatory for all Government of Canada
websites to be compliant with a clearly defined set of
Common Look-And-Feel Guidelines set out by the Treasury
Board of Canada. These guidelines provide strict rules for
web developers based on enabling usability for a wide range
of users and creating a common identity between all
government sites. (read the guidelines)
Working within these guidelines was the key to developing
the new intranet layout. Setting exact pixel widths for
tables, implementing universal style sheets, placing
government identifiers and the common menu bar, and adhering
to readability guidelines were all of considerable
importance. While working within these guides, we created a
cohesive visual identity that reflects the organization and
the purpose of the site.
