Shawn Murphy, the Liberal representative for Charlottetown
in Ottawa, is one of our oldest clients. As Shawn said in a
recent press release, “Communicating with my constituents is
my number one concern. I want the people of Charlottetown to
have the access they need, not just to me, but to the entire
federal government.” We've just gone through a process of
redesigning
his site to bring
it up-to-date technically and aesthetically to meet that
goal.
One aspect of the redesign was to develop a web
standards-compliant layout technically using xHTML and CSS.
The newly redesigned layout uses semantic code to make it
more accessible to people with visual disabilities. The code
will also make it easier to make visual changes to the
layout in the future.
We've also reorganized the information on the site so that
it's easier for people to access. Particularly since the old
site had been around for a few years, it was useful to look
back and see how content was organized naturally over time
and use that as a guiding principle in the reorganization.
All of the previous content was broken into logical
groupings so that there is a manageable number of top-level
categories while still ensuring as much important
information is immediately accessible from every page. The
homepage now features recently updated content too, like
press releases, so it's easier to keep up-to-date.
The photo gallery on the new site is now built on our
photo gallery system
and which now enables a lot more flexibility for adding
photos to the website.
