The
NRC-IRAP Intranet
has been named by
Jakob Nielsen
and the
Nielsen Norman Group
as one of the
Ten Best Government Intranets in their
report
Ten Best Government and Public Sector Intranet
Designs. Working closely with silverorange, NRC-IRAP rolled out a
customized version of the silverorange Intranet in their
organization.
NRC-IRAP is a program of the
National Research Council of Canada
with over 400 employees working in 90 communities across
Canada. IRAP offers innovation assistance to small and
medium-sized Canadian enterprises and is regarded world-wide
as one of the best programs of its kind.
This is the third time Jakob Nielsen, respected web
usability expert, has honoured the silverorange intranet
platform. The silverorange intranet has previously been
named the
Best Intranet of 2001
and in 2003, the intranet won again for its new and improved
version in the Nielsen Norman Group’s
Intranet Design Annual: Best Intranets of 2003.
Usability expert Jakob Nielsen, founder and principal of
Nielsen Norman Group:
“The silverorange intranet has proven to be an
excellent-looking and very simple-to-use system. Designs
from this company have made the top ten in not one, but
two of our Nielsen Norman Group Intranet Design
Annuals.”
“The intranet’s interactive design combined
with numerous usability methods, including field studies,
basic usability tests, card sorting, and heuristic
evaluations, is excellent. Because the intranet did not
work perfectly right out of the box for NCR-IRAP, the team
conducted more research with users to tailor the intranet
for NCR-IRAP’s specific user needs, giving them an
award-winning design.”
